It is the purpose of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake to help provide affordable housing for families in need. They also introduce people to opportunities for job training, career advancement, and even tax preparation. ReStore is the arm of Habitat for Humanity that raises funds for home building projects through the sales of donated furniture, appliances, and more. You can help further Habitat for Humanity’s mission by volunteering at ReStore’s Timonium location. Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm, they accept volunteers for help with customer service, warehousing, merchandise/pricing, and processing donations.

Baltimore County Public Schools depend on volunteers to help bolster the reach of its programs. You can help provide support for students both inside and outside of the classroom. Maryland ASPCA

Zip down I-83 to volunteer with the Maryland ASPCA. They are an independent nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the lives of pets and people. Their adoption center houses an average of 3,500 pets every year. Volunteers help with duties that include cat cuddling, nursery nanny, and dog deputy. They also often need extra hands for ASPCA events. You can volunteer your time as an individual or with a group of friends.

Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland

Where: 515 South Haven Street, Baltimore

There are many ways you can volunteer your time and energy to Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland. They operate with the mission of helping people to continue living independently. They assemble and deliver nutritious meals right to their door. In addition to volunteering for deliveries, Meals on Wheels volunteers also assist with grocery shopping for homebound people. You could even sign up to be a friendly companion through phone calls or social visits.

Cool Kids Campaign

The mission of the Cool Kids Campaign is to provide various services to the families of children who are fighting cancer. The focus of the organization is based around the ideal that kids are kids, whether they are healthy or sick. They provide care packages that include gift cards, board games, and family movies. The kids also get the chance to experience Myrtle Beach vacations. Smile celebrations mark milestones like birthdays and end-of-treatment. Volunteers can make themselves available at events or even apply for an internship to learn more about running a small nonprofit.

Providence Volunteer Fire Company

Where: 1416 Providence Road, Towson

The Providence Volunteer Fire Company is a 100% volunteer fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services organization. They provide service to Baltimore County and surrounding areas. The Providence company has a fleet of five vehicles. People who volunteer get free training and personal protective equipment to suppress fires and rescue people, and provide various public assistance, inspection, and educational services.

GBMC HealthCare, Inc.

Where: 6701 N. Charles Street, Towson

Volunteering with the Greater Baltimore Medical Center gives you the chance to help advance the goals of the hospital. Each year, there are about 600 people who give their time toward supporting the hospital staff and patients. Volunteers assist with fundraising efforts at special events and in the hospital Corner Shop. GBMC has volunteer programs for high school and college students, and traditional adults.

The YMCA of Central Maryland

Where: 600 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Towson

The mission of the Y of Central Maryland is to give people the facilities and opportunities to explore and develop healthier lifestyles. Allowing people to get active, learn to swim, and become more engaged with activities in the Towson community. The Towson Y features indoor pools, a fitness center, rock wall, and activity room for kids. As a volunteer, you could participate in reading to children or making welcome packets.
